Many amazing films have come out in the past decade. This article will detail some of the best movies of the past decade. The Social Network, Crash, Lord of the Rings, and Iron Man are some of the best movies of the past decade.

The Social Network was written by Aaron Sorkin and follows the rise of facebook creator, Mark Zuckerberg. This brilliantly scripted work really showcases the human element of the building of a company. This movie more so than any other movie this decade has captivated the emotion that being rich cannot buy happiness. It showcases the idea that in order to be happy you should treat others with the respect that you command.

Another great movie of the past decade was Iron Man. Iron Man was played by Robert Downey Jr. who does a remarkable job portraying the flamboyance of Iron Man. A man who runs a weapons manufacturing company, Downey Jr. saves the world from itself. He intervenes in conflicts where military intervention has failed and saves the problem from villains who wish to destroy it. This amazing story highlights the need for individuals to assist when appropriate and to save the world from the harmful effects of villians.

There are many great, classic movies on the market today for people of all walks of life. Ranging from Sci-Fi and Thriller down to Comedy and Drama, these classic films have an ageless, nostalgic feel to them, making them popular even today. Writers like Orson Welles and Ed Wood were creative (sometimes comedic) geniuses in their own right and their films will continue to entertain audiences for years to come.

Plan 9 From Outer Space is probably one of the most classic movies of all time. Known famously as the worst movie ever written, Ed Wood was at the helm on this creative masterpiece. The movie ‘almost’ features Bella Legosi in his final role and is about a race of aliens who begin to enslave the earth by making the dead rise and attack the human race. There are a great many bloopers and follies which were left in the film by Wood, and many viewers to this day still thank him for it.

Starring, written and directed by Orson Welles, Citizen Kane is known as the number one movie of all time. It features some extremely astute camera work and is the first film to use a moving steady cam. Citizen can is the first movie ever made which resembles a modern Hollywood Blockbuster, rather than having the play-like appearance of its counterparts. Kane consistently rates number one on just about every movie list out there and is certainly worth watching.

Every family needs a section of movies dedicated just to the classics. Whether you are 3 or 83, there are just some movies that never go out of style. Here, we list a few must haves.

1. The Wizard of Oz – What child (or adult for that matter) doesn’t love going on the adventure with Dorothy? From The Lolly Pop Gill to The Merry Old Land of Oz, your children will be singing these songs right along with the movie in no time. Truly a family classic!

2. Annie – Who doesn’t love a rags to riches story? They don’t get any better than Annie! Carol Burnett plays the ultimate “love to hate” villain and Albert Finney is wonderful as Daddy Warbucks. The movie has such heart, you can’t help but fall in love with the characters and root for Annie and Grace to win Daddy Warbucks’ heart!

3. Cinderella – Every little girl wants to be Cinderella! A great Disney classic all the way around!

4. It’s a Wonderful Life – What better movie to teach everyone to be very thankful for who and what they have in their lives! A wonderful heartwarming film that everyone will love!

With the recent release of the less-than-stellar Resident Evil: Afterlife, it seems like the perfect time to count down some of our favorite video game adaptations. If any directors are reading, this is proof that you can capture all the action of a successful franchise while still making an entertaining story.5. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010): Director Mike Newell had success with the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire adaptation. In Prince of Persia, he distills the essence of an action video gameamazing stunts, humorous dialogue, and attractive charactersand unleashes it with glorious visuals.4. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001): This film’s main success was placing Angelina Jolie in the role she was born to play: the sultry globe-hopping thrill-seeker Lara Croft. The plot is pulpy fun, and putting Jolie’s real-life father Jon Voight as Lord Richard Croft is an inspired touch.3. Pokemon: The First Movie (1998): Released at the heyday of the franchise’s popularity, this animated flick had enough Pokemon to satisfy the most obsessive fan, but also an interesting plot in which the powerful Mewtwo attempts to break the bonds between Pokemon and trainer.2. Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie: Forget the pitiful live-action versions. This animated adaptation is the only one to bring depth to the characters while still exhibiting the bone-crunching action we all love.1. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within: This is one of the most divisive adaptations ever, and it’s not even really based on any of the games. Still, enjoy it for what it is: an amazing demonstration of CG-animation, with a dark and spiritual storylineand, of course, plenty of explosions.

In today’s modern movie world, it’s not enough for a comedy to just throw mindless jokes at the audience. There needs to be heart and compassion behind the laughs, so the audience leaves ready to bring a little more joy into their own lives. One such upcoming film is Andy Fickman’s Us & Them. Fickman is the director of films such as Race to Witch Mountain and She’s the Man. Us & Them is based off an original idea by Billy Crystal, who is also the film’s star and producer. He plays a grandfather who is tasked to take care of his grandchildren when their mother leaves for a work vacation. Difficulties arise when he is unable to reconcile with the modern, “politically correct” way of parenting.A comedy with a little more bite, but sure to still have some warm moments, is Dinner for Schmucks, scheduled to come out July 30. The film stars Paul Rudd as a corporate employee invited to his boss’s annual dinner where the person with the most eccentric guest gets preferential treatment. Enter Steve Carell as an IRS drone who spends his time dressing up mice and posing them in replicas of classic works of art. The movie is based off a French film and play called The Dinner Game. Of course, we know that Rudd and Carell will inevitably find friendship after a series of hijinks, and isn’t that what’s important? For teens (and those who wish they still were), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World provides an ironic take on romance, when guitarist Scott Pilgrim meets his soul mate and discovers that he must defeat her “seven evil exes” before they can live happily ever after. This blend of music, magic, and video games is sure to thrill audiences when it releases on August 13.

It’s almost the end of another summer work week, meaning its time to grab an ice-cold beverage and think about enjoying the weekend. If your plans include a trip to the local movie theater, you’ve got plenty of options, from animated kid comedies to foreign horror films. Here’s the rundown of the movies that opened July 9.

Despicable Me: The marketing for this film has been everywhere, with the Tic-Tac-shaped “minions” invading commercials and billboards. The plot concerns evil scientist Gru’s (Steve Carell) plot to steal the moon and generally make things despicable for the world. His plan is complicated by the introduction of three orphaned girls who force him to reconsider his role in life.

Predators: This hard-R-rated reboot returns the franchise to its roots as a kinetic action-horror franchise, and while it doesn’t go it about it quite as subtly as the originals, it’s still been garnering good reviews in the past week. Among the many reasons to see it is the introduction of new alien creatures never-before-seen in a Predator film.

The Kids Are All Right: This indie drama is opening in limited release this weekend. The adult-themed plot revolves around two teenagers raised in a same-sex marriage who embark on a quest to find their birth father and bring him into their life. Already an unexpected success at the Sundance Film Festival, the film could appeal to viewers looking for something a little different.

REC 2: If you missed out on the film Quarantine two years ago, you missed out on one of the eeriest zombie films of the year. Not everybody knows that film was a direct remake of a Spanish film, REC, that came out the year before. This sequel picks up directly after the cliffhanger end of the first film, and deals with the police’s attempt to control the zombie outbreak.

For those eagerly awaiting Daniel Craig’s return to the screen as Her Majesty’s Secret Service agent James Bond, you’ll have to keep waitingindefinitely. The 23rd film has been in flux since writers were initially hired to work on it near the beginning of 2009, and is now on hold.Daniel Craig was initially contracted for four films, of which two have been released: the series-redefining Casino Royale and its direct sequel, Quantum of Solace. Fans expected the next film to continue the storyline of Bond’s investigation into the evil Quantum secret society. Daniel Craig also mentioned that the new film would also focus on the origins of Moneypenny, Bond’s flirtatious liaison in M’s office, and Q, Bond’s go-to gadget guy.In an exciting turn of events, American Beauty director Sam Mendes signed on to direct the film, with Patrick Marber (Closer, Notes on a Scandal) set to write. These two artists promised to bring a new level of quality to the film, possibly never-before-seen in a James Bond film. However, as in any Bond flick, just as things looked brightest, disaster struck.MGM fell prey to a series of financial problems, which has them now considering options such as an outright sale, an auctioning off of notable properties (including the Bond franchise), and a merger with Lions Gate Entertainment. The company announced its shelving of the property in April.Things looked up when it was revealed that Sam Mendes was still under contract, but on July 4, EON Productions announced that the film was officially cancelled. While it’s unlikely we’ve seen the last of Bond, no one can predict when or where the next film will be showing up, although a remake of the video-game GoldenEye is currently in production featuring Craig’s likeness.

X-Men: First Class, Matthew Vaughn’s new film showcasing the early days of the heroic mutants, has been getting a lot of press recently as casting calls get finalized. While many negotiations are still going on, such as the possibility of Josh Hutcherson playing Cyclops and Kevin Pennington playing Multiple Man, several are set in stone. Here’s what we know:

James McAvoy as Professor X: The star of Atonement and Wanted will play the X-Men’s mentor, the telepathic Charles Xavier. The film will presumably take place before Xavier’s crippling accidentand before he went bald.

Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr: German-Irish Fassbender is playing Xavier’s friend and rival who eventually becomes Magneto, capable of manipulating magnetic forces. The fracture between the two men will likely be a basis of the film.

Alice Eve as Emma Frost: Recently starring in She’s Out of My League, this British star will play the seductive but ice cold telepath, who in the comics has gone from the X-men’s deadly foe to a central ally.

Nicholas Hoult as Beast: This child star played alongside Hugh Grant in About a Boy. As the acrobatic and cultured Hank McCoy aka Beast, expect to see Hoult doing a lot more moving.

Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee: This unknown actor has signed on as Banshee, an Irish mutant capable of unleashing a sonic scream to incapacitate his enemies. The character is best remembered for his tempestuous adult relationship with Moira MacTaggert, who is currently being cast. Rosamund Pike (An Education; Pride and Prejudice) is considered a front-runner.

Lucas Till as Havok: Star of family fare like Hannah Montana: The Movie and The Spy Next Door, Till will be playing the brother of Cyclops, Alex Summers aka Havok. In the comics, he represents the foil to Cyclop’s straight-arrow, authoritative personality.

When You’re Strange: A Film About the Doors: Now available on DVD, this film features rare archival footage, including excerpts from Jim Morrison’s 1969 experimental film HWY: An American Pastoral. The narration is provided by Johnny Depp. Keyboardist Ray Manzarek calls this the “true story of the Doors”, in contrast to the 1991 Oliver Stone film which took several factual liberties.

Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage: Geddy Lee’s amazing voice is recognizable to millions, but the history of his band has never been touched on before this documentary. Interviews with artists Rush influenced, including Jack Black, Billy Corgan, Trent Reznor, and members of the Foo Fighters and Metallica, round out this piece. Even at 107 minutes, there’s plenty left out, so be sure to check out the deleted scenes and live performances on the bonus disc.

The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights: Co-released with the band’s first live album, Jack and Meg White take the viewer along on their 2007 summer tour of Canada, during which they played mostly free shows anywhere people would listen. For those who have never had the chance to see this band live, this video will certainly leave a mark on you, especially in Jack’s final haunting rendition of “White Moon”.

Oil City Confidential: Not all rockumentaries focus on bands that made it big. Director Julien Temple‘s film is a portrait of Dr. Feelgood, a pub rock group that formed in the mid-70s, before punk took over. Guitarist Wilko Johnson provides the focus of the film, as a hippie schoolteacher-turned-rock star prepared to stand up for the rights of rockers everywhere.
